Combined Office, Family Space and Storage
The Findon family wanted a flexible, multi purpose gardenroom with a comfortable seating area for family relaxation with space for the children to play and an area for a desk for Chris to work from and a separate storage room. The design needed to optimise the available space while maintaining a stylish and durable finish.

In the picturesque village of Melbourne, Derbyshire, the Findon family wanted to transform their outdoor space with a multifunctional garden room. Their existing summerhouse was cold, damp, and inefficiently positioned, serving as little more than a storage area for garden toys and tools. With a vision to maximise the space and their garden’s potential, they approached Cosy Garden Rooms to create a bespoke solution that would meet their family’s needs.
They wanted a flexible garden room that could serve multiple purposes: a comfortable seating area for family relaxation with space for the children to play, a dedicated office area for Chris, who works from home. Plus, a separate storage room/shed.

The finished project
A 6m x 3m (18 m2) garden room sits on a concrete base and is designed and positioned to maximise both space and functionality. An internal partition wall creates a 1.2m storage area, complete with its own external UPVC solid panel door.
The front and right side of the combined garden room are clad with composite slat cedar cladding, offering a natural yet maintenance-free finish. The back and left sides are clad in grey Hardie board composite, this is also maintenance free and durable. This was chosen as it isn’t as costly as cedar clad and as it isn’t seen it is a sensible choice.
The room has Anthracite UPVC doors and windows; 3m-wide double sliding patio doors alongside a full-height corner window (0.5m front, 1m side), flooding the interior with natural light. There is a 300mm overhang along the front and right-hand side of the building.
Internally, the garden room has a seamless plain ceiling with no joining strips, eight dimmable spotlights and five standard white power sockets, grey flooring and an infrared heater.
The storeroom/shed has an OSB board finish a cost-effective yet durable solution.
The completed garden room is a stunning example of functionality meeting style. The main section serves as a cosy office and sitting room, providing the perfect space for Chris to work from home while also offering a comfortable area for family relaxation. The internal partition wall separates the storage area, which is accessible via its own external door, ensuring tools and garden equipment are neatly tucked away.
The composite slatted cedar cladding on the front and right gives the room a modern look while the Hardie board cladding on the back and left ensures durability and low maintenance. The large sliding patio doors and full-height corner window flood the room with natural light, making it an inviting space year-round.
"The garden room is great - a fantastic place to work, a cosy spot to unwind with the family, and a clever storage solution, we love it."
The Findon family were thrilled with the transformation of their outdoor space. The new garden room not only fulfilled their brief but exceeded expectations in both design and functionality. By replacing the old summerhouse, they now have a versatile, stylish, and practical addition to their home that enhances their daily lives.
