Ian and Sue had recently downsized to a bungalow in Belper, Derbyshire, with stunning views across the town and open countryside. After living there for a while, they realised they missed having a second reception room. Initially, they explored adding an extension to the rear of the property, but the sloping nature of the plot meant extensive excavation, higher costs, and significant disruption — all of which they wanted to avoid.

Looking for alternatives, they discovered that a bespoke garden room could provide the extra living space they needed without the mess or lengthy build times. Their search led them to Cosy Garden Rooms, and the result is a stunning, multi-purpose retreat that has quickly become one of the most loved spaces in their home.

The chosen Garden Room solution

The garden room measures 5.5 m × 3 m, covering a total of 16 sq meters, and is clad in maintenance-free composite heathered moss cladding. It features front sliding doors with full-height corner windows on each side, and all windows, doors, and fascias are anthracite UPVC. The room sits on a concrete base; before this was laid, the site was levelled, which included relocating a stone rockery.
A 300 mm overhang at the front is fitted with four spotlights, providing both style and practical lighting. Inside, the garden room has a plain ceiling and grooved board walls, complemented by eight ceiling spotlights painted in crisp white. Dark grey laminate flooring completes the interior, giving a clean, contemporary finish.

Having decided that an extension wasn't the solution for them Ian started looking into alternatives and, to his surprise, found a multi-purpose garden room solution that met his needs perfectly with Cosy Garden Rooms. After considering different options, including conservatories, they settled on a composite-clad garden room in Sue's favorite colour. The garden room serves as a sitting room and TV room, providing them with the extra space they needed.

"I’ve not got a bad word to say! They were professional, provided design options, and nothing was too much trouble."

"If you are looking for a garden room, we heartily recommend Cosy Garden Rooms. We got exactly what we wanted, with no compromises. The garden room looks fantastic and has added a "wow" factor to our garden. Great company, great workers, and a good price".

We caught up with Ian recently to see how they are getting on since having their Cosy Garden Room.

Why did you choose a garden room instead of a home extension?
The garden rooms are built so quickly and with very little mess or disturbance, it took the Cosy guys 3 days, the process is seamless and hassle free. We didn’t need planning permission, so it really is an easy way to add space to your house. The room is really well insulated, it’s never that cold, it’s easy to heat and once you are inside, you would barely know the difference, using it all year round isn’t a problem.

The Finished Garden Room
The spacious 5.5m × 3m meter room gives Ian and Sue plenty of options for how to use the space. It includes a comfy sofa, a TV, and now even a pool table. “We have the extra space we wanted, and we added a canopy to the front so we can sit comfortably on the patio in the sunshine. We’ve used the room for relaxing, watching TV, enjoying the view, hosting parties, pool tournaments, and family nights. We’ve even had birthday parties for our grandchildren with a bouncy castle on the lawn. We use the garden room a lot, all year round. It never gets freezing cold and is quick and efficient to heat up”.

Why did you choose Cosy Garden Rooms?
After several weeks of trawling through websites, visiting showrooms, and pulling my hair out over the astronomical prices of some of these buildings, we eventually found Cosy Garden Rooms. Shortly after my initial contact, Mark visited to assess our needs and possibilities, which turned out to be extensive. He was an excellent salesperson, providing advice and returning with a very competitive price and a full CAD representation of the finished build. Cosy Garden Rooms offered a complete service. They could handle everything, including some landscaping we thought we’d need another company for. The building was fully customisable, allowing us to design it to match our exact requirements. They include a concrete base as standard within the price, which no other company did, plus a price and quality guarantee. This gave us peace of mind and confidence in our purchase.

How was your experience with Cosy Garden rooms?
I’ve not got a bad word to say! They were professional, provided design options, and nothing was too much trouble. Mark was always available and kept in touch every step of the way. We were provided with CAD drawings and a good quote. The team that built the garden room worked incredibly hard and are experts in what they do. The start time was only a few weeks from agreeing to have the garden room, and the team arrived promptly at 7:20 am every morning. Once the base had set, the garden room itself took just two days to erect, complete with full electrics. All the guys worked extremely hard during their time with us. They were courteous, well-presented, answered all our questions, and cleaned up any mess. The internal decoration and cleaning were done to a high standard, finishing the room perfectly.
