Amy and Garreth wanted a reasonably sized, versatile, and maintenance-free playroom. They

envisioned a safe space for their children to play, with low-maintenance, wipe-clean surfaces and

ample storage. They wanted the room to feel modern, light, airy, and fun. Most importantly, they

wanted the room to grow with the family’s needs, transforming from a playroom to perhaps a

teenage den, a study space, or a gym as their children grew.

We caught up with Amy while the kids were at school to see how they are getting on since having their Cosy Garden Room.

WHAT WE BUILT – A ROOM THAT WILL GROW WITH THE FAMILY

Amy and Gareth chose a 5m × 4m garden room, featuring maintenance-free composite classic light mist Hardie board cladding and UPVC anthracite windows and bi-fold doors. The building includes a 600mm front overhang fitted with spot lighting. Internally, the room has grooved walls painted white, light grey flooring, and dimmable lighting. The total cost was £25,000.

THE FINISHED PROJECT

Having a dedicated space solely for the children means they can come and go as they please without having to tidy everything away back into toyboxes and cupboards. According to Amy, the children, though young, are proud of their space and do keep it tidy - for a playroom!

The garden room not only provides the extra living space needed but also gives the children a

dedicated area of their own. Additionally, it enhances the overall appeal of the garden, making it a more functional and enjoyable space for the entire family, especially since Amy and Garreth have even squeezed a sauna in there too.

We choose a clean classic modern design so that we can change the use of the room as the children grow and our needs change.

Why did you need a garden room?

We have two children and live in a three-storey townhouse, so there's not enough downstairs living space. We needed somewhere for the children to play and store all their toys. We didn’t want them taking over the house, but we also didn’t want them to feel like they couldn’t play and arrange their toys as they wanted.

How did you hear about Cosy Garden Rooms?

My husband did an extensive internet search, looking at companies all over the country. He was very good, reading reviews, checking past jobs and comparing prices. After considering various factors Cosy Garden Rooms stood out so he contacted them.

What was your experience like during installation process?

It was very quick, very efficient. They were very tidy, courteous and built in five days. It was very

stress free and we were left with a room that was ready to go, freshly painted and lovely and clean.

What is your favourite thing about your experience with Cosy Garden Rooms?

The communication is really quick. They are really good at getting back to you, evenings, weekends, nothing seemed too much trouble.

Do you use and enjoy your garden room in the way that you initially planned?

Yes, at the moment it works perfectly for our family as a play room. The house is tidy, we don’t have to worry about toys being everywhere. My son Harry puts his trophies and artwork in the room, basically anything he wants to show off, he proudly displays in here, it’s his room.

We’ve also somehow managed to squeeze a sauna in here – though that’s not for the children.

What would you say to someone thinking about buying a garden room?

I strongly recommend it. In the summer you can open the bifold doors and it's a bit of a break from the sun, it allows you to use your garden to its maximum. The children can go between the garden and the garden room, they are like outside in the fresh air for ages. It’s warm in the winter, rainy days are great in here, it really doesn't matter what the weather’s like.

Was your Cosy Garden Room good value for money?

Yes, 100%! It actually adds value to the house, because its additional square footage and it makes the downstairs living space so much more usable. So much more versatile – we are delighted with it!
