Not Your Usual Garden Room Video

We take plenty of photographs and videos of the garden rooms we build, usually to show the finished space, talk through the design and give people an idea of what can be created in their own garden.

But for this video we decided to do something completely different.

It started when I came across a video on Facebook produced by Reel Productions. The video was about Matlock in Derbyshire, which immediately caught my attention as it's close to where I grew up.

The video was fun, catchy, a bit silly and completely different from the usual promotional content you see online. It isn't often that you come across something that feels genuinely fresh and makes you stop scrolling, but this did.

So I got in touch.

A different way to showcase a garden room

The idea was to take that same fun approach and use it to showcase one of our garden rooms, not with a traditional walkthrough or someone talking to camera about insulation, cladding and sockets, but through music, filming and humour.

Brad Perrow's garden room in Nottingham was a natural choice for the filming. We previously built the space as a garden office and entertainment room, complete with a bar, workspace and seating area. It also has a shower room and decking with a hot tub. It's a great-looking room with lots of different areas to capture on camera, both inside and out.

How the video came together

The song came first, giving us the basis for what we needed to film.

We then spent a day filming at Brad's house, filming inside and outside the garden room, along with capturing drone footage showing the room and garden from above. Bringing the whole thing together in the final edit.

The result is definitely not your usual garden room video!

Why did we do it?

Quite simply, we wanted to try something different.

There's a lot of garden room content online and, understandably, much of it focuses on the finished building, its specification and what it can be used for. We produce plenty of that ourselves because it's useful when you're considering having a garden room built.

But occasionally it's good to do something simply because it's fun and catches people's attention.

We're very serious about the garden rooms we build, but that doesn't mean everything we produce to promote them has to be.

And has everyone loved the video? No. It's divided opinion a little – some people think it's brilliant, while others aren't quite so sure! But we don't all have the same sense of humour, and doing something different will inevitably get a different reaction.

One thing everyone does seem to agree on, though, is that Brad's garden room looks fantastic.

And with the sun shining and temperatures high, it seems like a pretty good time to finally give the video a proper outing.
